The problems range from mild to severe. Sadly, suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens.</P>
<P>Unfortunately, most young people with mental health problems don't get any treatment for them. Research shows that effective treatments are available that can help members of all racial, ethnic, and cultural groups.</P>
<P>If you broke your leg or came down with pneumonia, you wouldn't let it go untreated. Often however, young people ignore mental health problems thinking they will "snap out of it," or that they are something to be ashamed of. That kind of thinking prevents people from getting the help they need. Sometimes getting help is a matter of changing your mind.</P>]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[Insomnia Places Elderly at Risk for Depression]]></title>

<P>即将在美国精神病学杂志研究出版和在线可以阅览的一项研究中，UCLA精神分析教授DR.Michael和他的同事们提出了三个假设：在有睡眠障碍历史的老年人群中患抑郁的风险比率更高；在那些之前有抑郁症状的老人中，睡眠困扰也预示着抑郁的复发；睡眠困扰可以扮演独立与其他抑郁症状致使抑郁复发的危险因素。</P>

<P>While for most people sleeplessness can be annoying at best or unhealthy at worst, for elderly individuals who have suffered from depression in the past, poor sleep may be the first sign that a new bout of depression is coming on. </P>
<P>In a study to be published in an upcoming issue of the <EM>American Journal of Psychiatry </EM>and currently available online, UCLA professor of psychiatry Dr. Michael Irwin and his colleagues posed three hypotheses: risk for depression would be higher among older people with a prior history of the disorder; among those with prior depression, sleep disturbance could predict a relapse or recurrence; and sleep disturbances could act as a risk factor for depression recurrence separate from other depressive symptoms. </P>
<P>The study confirmed all three hypotheses. </P>
<P>“Insomnia is the most frequent sleep disturbance in depressed patients and is viewed as a symptom of current depression,” said Irwin. </P>
<P>“But when sleep disturbances begin to emerge in an otherwise healthy adult who has experienced depression in the past, we found that it may serve as a precursor to another attack of depression.” </P>
<P>The study looked at 351 adults, age 60 and older. Of that number, 145 had a prior history of major or non-major depression that was in full remission, while 206 had no prior history of depression or other mental illness. </P>
<P>The participants were assessed at four different times over a two-year period for depressive episodes, depressive symptoms, sleep quality and chronic medical disease. </P>
<P>The researchers found that of the subjects with prior depression, 23 had a relapse, compared with only one person in the group without prior mental illness. With the first group, researchers were able to predict depression recurrence based on individuals’ sleep disturbance.<BR>Irwin noted that this association was established independently of other depressive symptoms, chronic medical disease or any use of antidepressants. </P>
<P>The study, Irwin said, is the first to demonstrate that sleep disturbances act as an independent risk factor for depression recurrence in older adults. </P>
<P>“Unfortunately, sleep difficulties are often considered to be a part of normal aging, and asking about and assessing the quality of an older person’s sleep is frequently overlooked during routine doctor visits,” Irwin said. </P>
<P>“The omission is particularly striking, since we know that sleep disturbance is associated with declines in health functioning and with increases in all causes of mortality in older adults. </P>
<P>“And now, this study shows that sleep disturbance is often related to depressive disorders in late life, which carry further considerable risks for morbidity and mortality.” </P>
<P>To identify older adults at risk for depression, Irwin said, a two-step strategy can be employed. One step involves assessment of whether individuals have had a prior episode of depression, the other whether they have current and ongoing sleep disturbance.</P>
<P>“Given that sleep disturbance is a modifiable risk factor,” he said, “these findings tell us that we need to develop treatments that target sleep disturbances for the prevention of depression recurrence in older adults.” </P>]]></description>

<P>The Lunch Box Diet is a small downloadable document (10 pages) from UK personal trainer Simon Lovell. Although Simon describes the diet as "no fad" its recent appearance in Elle Magazine may well change that.</P>
<P>So what is the "lunch box diet"?</P>
<P>It's a simple concept: </P>
<P>Get yourself a large plastic lunchbox <BR>Fill it with a highly nutritious mix of vegetables, proteins, and fats. <BR>Slowly graze on the lunch box contents all through the day (i.e. in between breakfast and dinner). The idea here is to snack on some food every hour or so (never gorge).</P>
<P>Elle calls it a "tried &amp; tested party diet".The mix in the lunchbox should be something like 60% vegetables, 30% lean proteins, and 10% dressing.</P>
<P>Favorite vegetables include Broccoli, Spinach, Avocado, Chilli pepper, Sugarsnap peas, and asparagus. Proteins may include things like Tuna, Grilled Chicken or Turkey Breast. Dressings will be something like olive oil, chutney, seeds or nuts. Note that the small ebook provides a much larger list. There is no mention of precise amounts or quantities.</P>
<P>Starchy carbs (such as brown pasta, brown rice) are only recommended if you engage in an active job or lifestyle.</P>
<P>The Principle<BR>The concepts behind the diet make sense. Spend the day consuming nutrient-dense vegetables. Train your stomach to become smaller - thus when it is time to eat dinner you probably won't be able to binge. Don't get too rigid or restrictive.</P>
<P>Breakfast and dinner should be kept "normal" although some good diet recommendations are made.</P>

<P><FONT size=2>“巧克力牛奶、巧克力松饼、巧克力蛋糕——这真是难以置信，”沃洛贝是新泽西布伦瑞克(Brunswick)罗格斯大学(Rutgers University)营养学幼儿园主任，“而孩子的妈妈简单认为，他就想要这个，所以我就给他了。”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>尽管大多数父母还不至于让孩子吃这种巧克力餐，他们自己每天也都很头疼，不知道该让自己孩子吃什么。虽然全民都在讨论儿童肥胖对健康的影响，也有很多父母头疼孩子爱吃的炸鸡和面条会不会造成营养不良。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>父母对孩子饮食过于注意也是孩子成长中的正常现象。幼儿天生敏感——对新东西总是不信任。即使最有主意的父母也会对宁愿什么都不吃也不原意试新食物的孩子吓到。因此，父母常常放弃，决定让孩子吃碗可可泡芙或一块多士蛋糕(Pop-Tart)，虽然不是最好的，但起码比什么都不吃强。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>“我想父母都认为让孩子吃点东西是他们的责任，” Worobey说。“但提供各种健康食品并让孩子吃得多元化，这才是他们真正的责任。”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>几个简单的进餐战略能够帮助哪怕是最挑食的儿童学会享用更多样化的食物。以下是父母喂养孩子时常见的六种错误。</FONT></P>

<P><FONT size=2>哥伦比亚大学师范学院的研究人员研究了和儿童一起做饭将如何影响他们的饮食习惯。一个实验中，接近600名从幼儿园到六年级上了营养课的儿童愿意吃更多的蔬菜和全麦食品。一些上了课的儿童还加入了烹饪班。研究人员发现这些儿童比没有接受课程的儿童更愿意在饭堂吃他们曾烹饪过的食物，甚至还要加菜。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>当儿童也参与到烹饪过程中时，“他们至少变得愿意试试这些食物，”师范学院营养教育教授Isobel Contento说，她也是这份研究报告的作者之一，“儿童一般不喜欢吃胡萝卜，但我们发现孩子如果能自己切胡萝卜再把他们做成沙拉，他们就很喜欢吃。”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>强迫他们尝一口。过分要求孩子什么东西都尝一口好像挺合理，但这反而会弄巧成拙。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>研究发现，父母强迫孩子吃东西的时候，孩子通常是拒绝的，就算吃这些东西能换来奖励。宾夕法尼亚大学的一个研究中，研究人员让孩子吃蔬菜喝牛奶，照做了就可以吃糖看电视。后来研究发现，他们对能换取奖励的食物表示反感。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>“家长常说，‘吃了蔬菜就能看电视，’但我们知道其实这不管用，”宾大儿童肥胖研究中心主任Leann L. Birch说，她也是份项研究报告的作者之一。“短时间内这种办法可能会有用，但长期来说，孩子们会更不喜欢吃这些东西。”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>把食物放在桌子上，鼓励他们去吃也许是更好的办法。但如果孩子不吃也别抱怨，吃了也别表扬。问他们是不是还要，要的话自己再去拿，但态度要中立。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>让“好东西”离孩子远点。家长怕孩子吃东西没有节制，因此会把东西藏起来或者放在很高的架子上。但研究报告表明，如果父母限制孩子吃某些东西，他们会更想要。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>宾达的另一个研究中做了一项试验，看看孩子会不会更想要被禁止吃的食物。孩子们坐在桌子旁，试验一开始，他们可以随便吃盘子里的苹果饼干棒或者水蜜桃饼干棒——这两样东西年轻人评价为“还行(just O.K.)”。而另一组，一部分饼干棒放在盘子里，一部分放在桌子中间显眼的饼干罐里。10分钟后告诉孩子他们可以吃中间罐子里的饼干。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>研究人员发现结果限制饼干的很影响很大：盒子里的饼干消耗的数量是盘子里的3倍多。另一项研究表明孩子在家里被禁止吃的那样东西一旦有机会吃，他们可能会吃更多。父母学到了什么？不要再家里放你觉得应该限制的食物，而要买健康的食物回家，并允许孩子自由打开储藏柜。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>当着孩子面节食。孩子的饮食偏好会倾向于和父母一致，他们更愿意吃那些父母也吃的东西。罗格斯大学对父母和子女饮食偏好的研究发现，学龄前儿童会喜欢或讨厌他们父母也喜欢和讨厌的食物，还发现如果妈妈不喜欢吃蔬菜，女儿通常也会挑食。</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>既然父母影响如此巨大，正在减肥的家长应该了解，他们的饮食习惯会影响孩子对食物和健康饮食的理解。在对5岁女孩的研究中，一个孩子注意到巧克力奶昔能减肥——他妈妈以前就喝这种瘦身饮料。另一个孩子说，减肥就是“做饭但是不吃。”</FONT></P>

<P><FONT size=2>While most parents haven’t resorted to the chocolate diet, they can relate to the daily challenge of finding foods that children will eat. Although obesity dominates the national discussion on childhood health, many parents are also worried that their child’s preferred diet of nuggets and noodles could lead to a nutritional deficit. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Fussiness about food is a normal part of a child’s development. Young children are naturally neophobic — they have a distrust of the new. Even the most determined parents can be cowed by a child’s resolve to eat nothing rather than try something new. As a result, parents often give in, deciding that a bowl of Cocoa Puffs or a Pop-Tart, while not ideal, must be better than no food at all.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>“I think parents feel like it’s their job to just make their children eat something,” Ms. Worobey said. “But it’s really their job to serve a variety of healthy foods and get their children exposed to foods.”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>A series of simple meal-time strategies can help even the pickiest eater learn to like a more varied diet. Here’s a look at six common mistakes parents make when feeding their children.</FONT></P>
<P><BR><FONT size=2>Sending children out of the kitchen With hot stoves, boiling water and sharp knives at hand, it is understandable that parents don’t want children in the kitchen when they’re making dinner. But studies suggest that involving children in meal preparation is an important first step in getting them to try new foods. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Researchers at Teachers College at Columbia University studied how cooking with a child affects the child’s eating habits. In one study, nearly 600 children from kindergarten to sixth grade took part in a nutrition curriculum intended to get them to eat more vegetables and whole grains. Some children, in addition to having lessons about healthful eating, took part in cooking workshops. The researchers found that children who had cooked their own foods were more likely to eat those foods in the cafeteria, and even ask for seconds, than children who had not had the cooking class.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>When children are involved in meal preparation, “they come to at least try the food,” said Isobel Contento, professor of nutrition education at Teachers College and a co-author of the study. “Kids don’t usually like radishes, but we found that if kids cut up radishes and put them in the salad, they love the radishes.”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Pressuring them to take a bite Demanding that a child eat at least one bite of everything seems reasonable, but it’s likely to backfire.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Studies show that children react negatively when parents pressure them to eat foods, even if the pressure offers a reward. In one study at Pennsylvania State University, researchers asked children to eat vegetables and drink milk, offering them stickers and television time if they did. Later in the study, the children expressed dislike for the foods they had been rewarded for eating.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>“Parents say things like ‘eat your vegetables and you can watch TV,’ but we know that kind of thing doesn’t work either,” said Leann L. Birch, director of Penn State’s childhood obesity research center and a co-author of the study. “In the short run, you might be able to coerce a child to eat, but in the long run, they will be less likely to eat those foods.”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>The better approach is to put the food on the table and encourage a child to try it. But don’t complain if she refuses, and don’t offer praise if she tastes it. Just ask her if she wants some more or take seconds yourself, but try to stay neutral.</FONT></P>
<P><BR><FONT size=2>Keeping ‘good stuff’ out of reach Parents worry that children will binge on treats, so they often put them out of sight or on a high shelf. But a large body of research shows that if a parent restricts a food, children just want it more.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>In another Penn State study, researchers experimented to determine whether forbidden foods were more desirable. Children were seated at tables and given unlimited access to plates of apple or peach cookie bars — two foods the youngsters had rated as “just O.K.” in earlier taste tests. With another group, some bars were served on plates, while some were placed in a clear cookie jar in the middle of the table. The children were told that after 10 minutes, they could snack on cookies from the jar.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>The researchers found that restricting the cookies had a profound effect: consumption more than tripled compared with when the cookies were served on plates.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Other studies show that children whose food is highly restricted at home are far more likely to binge when they have access to forbidden foods.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>The lesson for parents? Don’t bring foods that you feel the need to restrict into the house. Instead, buy healthful snacks and give children free access to the food cabinets.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Dieting in front of your children Kids are tuned into their parents’ eating preferences and are far more likely to try foods if they see their mother or father eating them. A Rutgers study of parent and child food preferences found that preschoolers tended to like or reject the same fruits and vegetables their parents liked or didn’t like. And other research has shown girls are more likely to be picky eaters if their mothers don’t like vegetables.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Given this powerful effect, parents who are trying to lose weight should be aware of how their dieting habits can influence a child’s perceptions about food and healthful eating. In one study of 5-year-old girls, one child noted that dieting involved drinking chocolate milkshakes — her mother was using Slim-Fast drinks. Another child said dieting meant “you fix food but you don’t eat it.”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>A 2005 report in the journal Health Psychology found that mothers who were preoccupied with their weight and eating were more likely to restrict foods for their daughters or encourage them to lose weight. Daughters of dieters were also more likely to try diets as well. The problem is, restrictive diets don’t work for most people and often lead to binge eating and weight gain. By exposing young children to erratic dieting habits, parents may be putting them at risk for eating disorders or a lifetime of chronic dieting. “Most mothers don’t think their kids are soaking up this information, but they are,” Dr. Birch said. “They’re teaching it to their daughters even though it doesn’t work for them.”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Serving boring vegetables Calorie-counting parents often serve plain steamed vegetables, so it’s no wonder children are reluctant to eat them. Nutritionists say parents shouldn’t be afraid to dress up the vegetables. Adding a little butter, ranch dressing, cheese sauce or brown sugar to a vegetable dish can significantly improve its kid appeal. And adding a little fat to vegetables helps unlock their fat-soluble nutrients. The few extra calories you’re adding are a worthwhile tradeoff for the nutritional boost and the chance to introduce a child to a vegetable.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Giving up too soon Ms. Worobey said she has often heard parents say, “My kid would never eat that.” While it may be true right now, she noted that eating preferences often change. So parents should keep preparing a variety of healthful foods and putting them on the table, even if a child refuses to take a bite. In young children, it may take 10 or more attempts over several months to introduce a food.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Sibling dynamics and friendships can also change a child’s eating habits. Dr. Birch of Penn State noted that her first child was always willing to try new foods, but that her second child was not. “Part of it was just him defining his place in the family,” she said. By the age of 10 or 11, he didn’t want to be outdone by his sister and was far more willing to try new foods.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>Susan B. Roberts, a Tufts University nutritionist and co-author of the book “Feeding Your Child for Lifelong Health,” suggested a “rule of 15” — putting a food on the table at least 15 times to see if a child will accept it. Once a food is accepted, parents should use “food bridges,” finding similarly colored or flavored foods to expand the variety of foods a child will eat. If a child likes pumpkin pie, for instance, try mashed sweet potatoes and then mashed carrots. If a child loves corn, try mixing in a few peas or carrots. Even if a child picks them out, the exposure to the new food is what counts.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>“As parents, you’re going to make decisions as to what you want to serve,” Ms. Worobey said. “But then you just have to relax and realize children are different from day to day.”<BR></FONT></P>]]></description>

<P><FONT size=2>Weigh yourself everyday<BR>You’ll find that almost every other dieter will tell you to weigh yourself only once a week. I recommend the exact opposite. I am very goal oriented and I like to see results everyday. The reason I recommend buying a scale that is accurate to the .2 is that there is a very big difference between weighting 170.8 one day and 170.0 the next day. Losing .8 pounds in one day is excellent. However, if your scale is not accurate enough to report the loss and still shows 170 after a day of healthy eating and working out, you will feel extremely discouraged. A more detailed scale makes it easier to keep a positive outlook. The more successes (days with positive weight loss) the easier it is.</FONT></P>

On the days that I don’t drink the water, I feel hungrier, earlier. Also, on the days I don’t drink water I feel sleepier, sooner. Don’t feel intimidated by trying to drink 8 glasses of water. Try doing what I do: I have a pint glass I keep at work, it holds sixteen ounces (as all pint glasses do). All I do is drink two pints of water in the morning and two in the afternoon.</FONT></P>

<P><FONT size=2>Tell people you’re on a diet. There’s no reason to be ashamed to be on a diet. I found that trying to keep my diet a secret was harder than just telling people. In fact, telling your coworkers, girlfriend, family, etc. will increase your accountability. It motivated me knowing that my coworkers and family knew that I was dieting because I did not want to fail. I also chose a typical “fat picture” and put it on my fridge, in my cubicle, and on my wall. I wanted to have a continual reminder to lose the weight. I know it’s a cliche, but it was important for me to remind myself of my ultimate goal.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>I feel I should also note that although I was 50 pounds over weight, when I told people I was on a diet they often said “you don’t need to diet.” I found this surprising because I was obviously overweight. Beware that you will likely hear similar comments. I found it easier to just accept the “compliment” than to try to justify my diet to them. Remember that you are on a diet for you, and that you do not need to justify yourself.</FONT></P>

<P><FONT size=2>This is another unconventional bit of advice. I was able to lose 50 pounds without dieting on the weekends. I found myself tired, depressed, and unmotivated if I tried to continue my diet into the weekend. I felt that Friday and Saturday (my weekend) was a time to celebrate 5 days of dieting. You may not find this necessary, especially in the first few weeks of a diet. However, as many weeks passed, the weekend became a time for me to celebrate my weekly successes and get myself mentally prepared for another five days of dieting. Whether this is because of lunches with your team at work, birthdays, or special occasions, there will be events that you just can’t (or don’t want to) eat healthy. A diet will feel overwhelming if you have to sacrifice special events in your life. The way I combated this was to exchange a day that I was not going to diet on the weekend. In other words, if I didn’t diet on Tuesday, for example, I would diet on Saturday, instead.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>７、总是作小改变</FONT></P>

<P><FONT size=2>This is a pretty common tip, however, I have a twist to it. Rather than giving up what most diets say you should give up (soda, coffee, beer, caffeine, etc.) just make healthier decisions. I didn’t want to give anything up, so I decided to make some changes instead. The first switch I made was switching to diet soda. Don’t worry, you’ll quickly get used to the flavor. Before I started my diet, I swore I would never drink diet soda. Now thanks to my girlfriend, diet is the only soda I drink. The second switch I made was to drinking black coffee. Cut out the sugar and creme, and you get the benefits of coffee (caffeine) without the calories. The last major switch I made was to “healthy” beer. I’m a Miller Lite drinker, however, by temporarily switching to Beck’s Premier Light (60 calories per serving) I was able to still enjoy a healthy social life while maintaining my diet.</FONT></P>

I also found it advantageous to wear a pedometer and try to compete against myself for how far I could walk in a single day. The furthest I walked in a day was 6.5 miles. I voluntarily walked to work twice a week.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=2>８、从多角度去理解</FONT></P>

On the other hand think of the major benefits you can get from .42% of your life. If it helps you stay motivated, count down the days starting at 120.<BR></FONT></P>

<P>I like to eat slowly. A meal takes thirty minutes or sometimes an hour. But pretty often I forget about this. So I thought I’d write an article about it to keep as a reminder. Something to take a look at whenever I get caught up in stressful eating. Here are three good reasons to eat slowly.</P>

<P>It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register that you are full. That’s because the food has to reach the intestines before your body starts sending signals telling your brain that you feel full. By slowing down your eating your brain can stop you before you eat too much. </P>

<P>About 1 in 3 adults has high blood pressure, but many people don't do a good job of controlling the problem because medications can be pricey. And doctors may not be doing all they can, either. According to new research, released last week during the annual meeting of the American Heart Association's Council for High Blood Pressure Research, many doctors fail to follow national guidelines that call for treating people above the 120/80 level. Here, then, is an online calculator from the American Heart Association that will help you calculate your risk, as well as five low-cost ways to lower your blood pressure.</P>
<P>1. Take a diuretic. A major study that examined commonly prescribed medications—including ACE-inhibitors, alpha blockers, and calcium channel blockers—found that diuretics, an older class of drugs, were more effective than the others at treating hypertension. You should talk to your doctor before trying a diuretic; most types require a prescription. Thiazide diuretics are an especially affordable and often effective option.</P>
<P>2. Cut back on salt. Again and again researchers have proved that eating too much salt causes blood pressure to rise. The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute suggests that even healthy adults eat no more than 2,400 milligrams of sodium—or about a teaspoon of table salt—a day; people with high blood pressure will want to eat about half of that. Try substituting spices such as bay leaf, nutmeg, pepper, basil, curry powder, garlic, ginger, oregano, and rosemary.</P>
<P>3. Use the DASH diet. The name of this diet—Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension—says it all. <P>电影《小兵张嘎》五十多年来已经使张嘎的故事家喻户晓。前些日子，电视剧《小兵张嘎》又在全国热播，引起了人们浓厚的兴趣。小兵张嘎是根据真人真事写的作品，张嘎子绰号燕嘎子，在冀中大名鼎鼎，令日伪军闻风丧胆。他的真名叫燕秀峰。</P>
<P>如今，年近八十的燕老耳聪目明、谈笑风生。他步伐矫健，身体硬朗。1924年生于河北任丘县于村乡后王约村，五六岁没了爹娘，跟着哥哥一起生活。由于从小就机警灵活，按家乡话就是又“坏”又“嘎”，因此大家就都叫他燕嘎子。1938年燕嘎子参加了抗日游击队，1939年加入中国共产党。先后担任勤务员、通讯员，后调入区小队手枪班。从14岁参加游击队到调入正规部队的六七年间，嘎子参与奇袭攻克敌人炮楼8座，缴获敌人机枪、步枪、手枪等武器100余支，击毙鬼子、汉奸、伪军等200多人，活捉的不计其数。</P>
<P>在冀中九分区抗日斗争最残酷的年代，“燕嘎子”作战非常勇猛。他的事迹在冀中九分区传为美谈。1944底，“嘎子”出席了晋察冀边区召开的第二次英模大会。被授予“一级战斗英雄”称号，这次会议上他有幸认识了一个改变他人生命运的人———著名作家魏巍。魏巍根据燕秀峰的事迹写了《燕嘎子的故事》的报道文章，记述了燕秀峰富有传奇色彩的战斗生涯。后来作家徐光耀把嘎子的艺术形象搬进了电影《小兵张嘎》中。</P>

<P>转眼50多年过去了，“嘎子”</P>
<P>仍然念念不忘他那一段段难忘的经历……第一次执行任务是1939年夏天，日本鬼子把六七个村的一片根据地封锁起来了，游击队被困在高粱地里一宿半天，又渴又饿。队长这时交给了嘎子一项任务：给同志们搞点吃的。并且制定了“不许偷、不许抢、不许违反纪律”的三不政策。这“三不许”可让嘎子有点发蒙。不过队长给了嘎子一支手枪，这是嘎子第一次摸枪。见了枪，嘎子来了精神。</P>
<P>他穿过封锁线来到一个被鬼子占领的村子。在村口嘎子看见了一个卖烧饼、果子的茶水摊，可是嘎子一个钱都没有。正在犯愁的时候，一个别着枪的汉奸大摇大摆地走了过来，往长凳上一坐抓起烧饼、果子就大吃大嚼，摆摊的老大爷一脸的敢怒不敢言。嘎子眼睛一亮，计上心来，悄悄地走到汉奸的身后，大喊一声：“别动，动就打死你！”汉奸吓了一跳，连说“不动不动……”嘎子伸手在他腰间一捋，下了他的枪，又命令他：“向前十步走！双手抱头蹲下。”回过头来，嘎子对老大爷说：“我是八路的侦察员，遇到了特殊情况想赊你老这些烧饼、果子，过后由组织上来按价还钱。”老大爷痛快地答应了。嘎子又叫过来汉奸，喊道：“把这些吃喝都给我拿着跟我走，你敢不老实就崩了你。”汉奸连说：“饶命饶命。我跟你走。”赶忙背着烧饼、果子，拎着茶水，和嘎子一起返回了根据地。同志们又吃又喝，这个乐呀！队长表扬了嘎子，说他超额完成了一项艰巨任务。这一年嘎子才15岁。</P>
<P>粱召岗楼的伪军队长，经常抓捕村干部和群众，勒索钱财，杀害无辜百姓，凶险狡猾。老百姓恨透了他，叫他“东霸天”，纷纷要求抗日队伍除掉他。队长把这个任务交给了嘎子，并给他派了两名同志。嘎子接受任务后仔细研究了“东霸天”的活动规律，决定在赶集日子干掉他。</P>
<P>这天，嘎子三人化装成赶集的老百姓来到大街上。集上人来人往，十分热闹。嘎子和同志们来到岗楼前，选择了有利地形静等“东霸天”出来。等了小半天，岗楼门开了，“东霸天”穿着日本黄呢军大衣，足蹬高筒黑皮靴，带着几个伪军大摇大摆地走了出来。等走到离嘎子三四米远的时候，这家伙看见了嘎子，突然拔出枪对准嘎子大喊一声：“举起手来。”嘎子一愣，心想：“被识破了吗？不能，他这是在诈我。”于是装出非常害怕的样子说：“老总，俺是赶集的。”东霸天斜楞着眼睛：“赶集的？老子看你是八路的探子。”随后抬脚就踢，并命令伪军把嘎子带到炮楼里去。嘎子边走边想：这进去就是个死，不如就在这儿干吧。这时“东霸天”在背后连喊带骂、推推搡搡，嘎子借势故意向前迈了个趔趄，就势一滚，顺手从怀里掏出枪，啪的一枪，当即击毙了“东霸天”。队友们也纷纷拔枪射击，顿时全集大乱，趁着伪军吓昏了头的时候，嘎子钻入人群中不见了。</P>
<P>这以后嘎子又和同志们打了许许多多的胜仗，成了远近闻名的抗日英雄。伪军、特务们都怕他，常常是没等打就先交了枪；有时出门时还相互提醒：“留点神，别碰上燕嘎子。”</P>

<P>1947年，嘎子在王庆坨战斗中负了重伤，部队安排嘎子在老家养伤，没想到嘎子从此以后就与部队失去了联系。解放后，嘎子隐姓埋名来到天津工作。先是在纺织厂、钢厂当工人，后又到一所学校烧锅炉，管理后勤。他从不向外人炫耀自己的过去，而是干一行爱一行，多次获得“先进工作者”、“生产标兵”称号。“文革”中，嘎子被打成“叛党分子”，揭发燕秀峰的大字报贴满了墙。他吃尽了苦头，被逼无奈时他才说出了“小兵张嘎”昔日的辉煌故事，红卫兵门竟然有些怕他了。“文革”后，他仍然回到一所学校做后勤工作。</P>
<P>1987年燕老要离休了。在办手续时，由于他的传奇经历，组织上不好定夺，最后层层上报，直到国务院。国务院派人调查后，批示：燕秀峰属于特殊情况，特殊办理，准予离休。<BR></P>]]></description>

<P>白洋淀位于于河北省安新县境内,地处北京、天津、石家庄中间地带，距离三个城市大约150公里左右，</P>
<P>白洋淀是华北地区最大的淡水湖泊。俗有“北地西湖”的美称,现有“华北明珠”之美誉。有诗赞“北国江南”，歌咏“渔米之乡”。</P>
<P>白洋淀一直以来是帝王巡幸之所，英雄倍出之地。白洋淀打造出许多精品故事,比如&lt;&lt;荷花淀派&gt;&gt;、&lt;&lt;燕翎队&gt;&gt;、《小兵张嘎》、《新儿女英雄传》等。 </P>
<P>白洋淀水域十分辽阔，烟波浩汤，气势连天际，总面积大约366平方公里，整个淀区被大约3700多条沟壕，12万亩芦苇分割成大小不等，形状各异的143个淀泊。其中最大面积的是白洋淀，所以以白洋淀的命名淀。 <BR></P>
<P>白洋淀气候宜人，风景绝美，四季竞秀，水光天色，妙趣天成。春光降临，芦芽遍出，满淀碧绿；每至盛夏，“蒲绿河红”、“岸柳如烟”；时逢金秋，芦花飞絮，稻谷飘香；隆冬时节，坚冰似玉，坦荡无垠。 <BR></P>
<P>早在7500年前，白洋淀区域是古黄河的必经之路，航路是沿太行山冲积扇东流入海，为白洋淀区域的水源提供了保证。 <BR></P>
<P>周定王五年（公元前602年）因为黄河在河北平原的地上河崩溃，只得改道南移。从此以后，白洋淀流域没有了古黄河的冲积，水势变小，其原因是黄河派生的一些支流盘踞于此，源源不断的经白洋淀东流入海。后来这些支流逐渐演化成为白洋淀长期供水的九河。故白洋淀有“<FONT color=#ff0000>九河下梢</FONT>”之称(注:九河是多条河的意思，不是共有九条河)。于是白洋淀流域出现了许多小洼地，这些小洼地的水面，随着旱涝的变化，时而收缩，时而扩张，大则串通成片，小则分离，甚至干涸。这样的白洋淀虽有湖泊的出现，但不是现在规则的样子，属于原始河流状态，没有今天这样陆地、苇田和沟壕，保持着沼泽的外貌。</P>
<P>&nbsp;到了战国时期，白洋淀流域成为“燕南陲、赵北际”军事要地，燕国在此筑有三台城、混&nbsp; 城，赵国筑有葛城，两国遥遥相对，虎视眈眈。公元前314年，燕昭王又沿着古黄河流经白洋淀的北岸。筑起了一道500余里的长城，称为“燕长城”。一是阻止淀水的北泛，二是防止敌国的入侵，从此奠定了白洋淀的北界。这条翠堤春晓步行街，就是在当年燕长城的旧址。它在历史上是硝烟弥漫的战场。伫立在步行界上沉思，遥想当年烽火连绵，人喊马嘶的场面就会浮现于脑海。 </P>
<P>在西汉时期，白洋淀出现过多年枯水期，有一佐证，即1985年在王家寨、赵庄子两地均发现了大片的汉墓群，出土了“五株钱”等大量文物。 </P>
<P>西晋时期白洋淀流域由枯水变为多水，出现了大量的游动淀泊。词赋家左思（250—305）在《魏都赋》中写到“掘鲤之淀，盖节之渊”唐代诗人李缮注曰“掘鲤之淀”在河间莫县之西（莫县即今天的任丘&nbsp;州），其位置与白洋淀的位置相符。“淀”这个名字由此而生。</P>
